As "forever" as homes are for Kevin and myself. I do jest that the kids will live in this bungalow while they bike to William & Mary and we tour the US in our airstream.
"When we say that education is an atmosphere, we do not mean that a child should be isolated in what may be called a 'child-environment' especially adapted and prepared, but that we should take into account the educational value of his natural home atmosphere, both as regards persons and things, and should let him live freely among his proper conditions. It stultifies a child to bring down his world to the child's level." -- Charlotte Mason Years 4, 2, 0, and 5yo tagalong ... here we come. {Zeb's photo to follow ... he was set to attend our local elementary school, but I had a change of heart.} Thank you Jesus that I get to keep these precious ones with me every day.
We bought a sweet brick ranch in an historic part of our new state, and it desperately needed a kitchen. Like a real-deal, I-can-cook-in-here-like-a-grown-up-with-four-kids kitchen. Thankfully, we lived in corporate housing while the remodel was taking place, so our experience was tempered by some space, even if it was still a wild test in patience and, well, kindness to your contractor. BEFORE AFTER My incredible husband and dad installed the backsplash tile, which was no easy feat. That and the cork and the apron sink, okay, and the soapstone, haha, are my favorite parts. I'm now scouring Etsy for just the right artwork.
We're on the move again. Mae likened us to Abraham ... always ready to go and see and do and trust. Kevin accepted an incredible promotion within his company and we're moving to the southern beaches of Virginia. Kevin moved two {loooooooooong} weeks ago and I stayed behind to school and pack up the house, but he's coming to retrieve us in FOUR sweet days. So our mornings are filled with school lessons and house work and our afternoons are packing, packing, packing. This is when I am more and more confident in our Charlotte Mason lifestyle. Four more days.
It cannot be ... Viola is 8. She is light and delight and fills every crevice of every room with abandoned joy.
It's a fresh new year, we are well into our studies, and today the sun is bright and shiny so I am feeling mightily motivated to write a bit again. I spent the better part of the weekend reading what fellow home school mamas are reading *for themselves* these days ... I know, for themselves you ask? This year I am focusing on being much more intentional about reading to grow me in many layered ways. I jotted down an ambitious list of books that I'd like to read and reread this year ... these are in no particular order, except for Miss Mason's books. Bible ~ my girls and I are following this children's reading plan, together, every early morning
